A founding member of The Outfield has died.  The British group reports via Facebook that guitarist John Spinks passed away Wednesday morning, after a lengthy battle with liver cancer.  He was 60.

Band members praise John's will to survive, saying he "bravely fought the disease until the very end."  They also thank their followers for all their support over the years, saying John's primary ambition in life was to play music that "made people happy and bought them fond memories."

Spinks helped form The Outfield in 1984.  The group's manager came up with their name, which was inspired by John's love of baseball.

The Outfield is best known in the U.S. for the 1986 hit "Your Love."  Surviving band members also admit that with John's death the group's future is "unclear."
