The Texas Department of Transportation has reopened 281 northbound and southbound just south of 1604, as contractors completed the first phase of repairs to the Henderson Pass Bridge, which was damaged earlier this month when it was hit by the bed of a dump truck.

The northbound connector ramp from 281 to Loop 1604 is also open.

The roads were not supposed to reopen until Monday, but crews completed work removing a damaged beam on the bridge early.  The bridge itself remains closed and more repair work will have to be done.

The early opening will make it easier for last minute back to school shoppers to go to stores along 281.

The insurance carrier of the truck that hit the bridge is paying for the repairs.
