Julian Castro, 37, cemented his status as a rising star in the Democratic Party Saturday, coasting to re-election as Mayor of San Antonio.

Castro, who delivered the keynote address at the 2012 Democratic National Convention and is seen as a major figure in the Democratic Party, received two thirds of the vote against six weak challengers.

Castro becomes the first San Antonio Mayor since Henry Cisneros to serve more than two terms in office, as the touggh term limit laws which were imposed in 1990 were loosened for this election.
