Council Approves Paying Manager Sculley $400k Plus a Year

Sheryl Sculley is laughing all the way to the bank.

San Antonio City Council today unanimously, and without discussion, approved a new two year contract for Sculley which will pay her a base salary of $400,000 in 2015...which will make her the highest paid municipal employee in the state.

"One of the best assets we have in this city for economic development and quality of life, certainly has been the tenure of our city manager, Sheryl Sculley," Councilman Rey Saldana said.

The new contract was approved as part of what is called the 'consent agenda,' where several items are approved together, so council members don't have to go on record specifically approving Sculley's contract.

"It is without hesitation I say that I have a lot of confidence in the city manager, that she has been steering this city in a very strong direction," Saldana said.

There was no discussion on the new agreement.

In case Sculley begins to get itchy feet, the contract also pays her a $50,000 'retention bonus' in 2014 and that bonus goes up to $65,000 in 2015.

By comparison, the Dallas City Manager is paid $261,000.  In Houston, which is twice the size of San Antonio, the Mayor, who is the city's chief operating officer and has the duties of city manager, is paid $208,000

Governor Perry, by the way, makes $150,000 a year.
