Former Chamber Boss Krier to Seek Chan's Council Seat
Posted Tuesday, October 29th 2013 @ 12pm  by Jim Forsyth

Joe Krier, the former President of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and one of the most influential policy leaders in the city for more than two decades, says he will put his name into consideration today for the vacant seat on City council representing the north central district, 1200 WOAI news has learned.

"I would bring a conservative voice to City Council," Krier told 1200 WOAI news.

Krier headed the immensely influential Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for twenty years, retiring in 2007.   He now is a partner in a business consulting firm along with his wife, former State Senator and County Judge Cyndi Taylor Krier.  He is also very active in a number of issues, mainly involving transportation, which is a key issue for the north central part of the city.

Krier will become a candidate for appointment to the District Nine City Council seat which was vacated earlier this month by Elisa Chan, who resigned after five years on council to run for the Republican nomination for State Senate.

City Council will interview applicants for the post early next month, and plans to name a successor to Chan by mid November.  The person who is appointed to the seat will serve until the May 2015 election.  Krier didn't say if he would seek election to the post in 2015 if he is appointed.
