Motorists who use U.S. 281 north of Spring Branch will get some relief starting in January.

1200 WOAI's Stephanie Narvaez says Comal County Commissioner Jan Kennady says that's when construction will begin on a $30 million project to widen 281 to the Blanco County line.

"Due to pass-through financing, the county will be putting in $16 million, and we thought it would be a great opportunity to get that road done," Kennady said.

The new road will not be a toll road.

She says the project has been badly needed for some time.

"It is extremely busy and getting busier every day, and that highway is used unbelievably, more now than it was a year ago," she said.

She says the project will take about two years to complete.
