A man managed to avoid an early morning confrontation with a train on the city's south side, but the man's car wasn't so lucky.

1200 WOAI news reports the man was driving too fast down a winding stretch of Commercial Avenue near Loop 410 about 3AM today when he lost control of his car.

The vehicle skidded on the road, leaving some 200 feet of skid marks, crossed the median, bounced into, and out of, a ditch, and then came to rest on the railroad tracks that run parallel to Commercial.

The man jumped out of his car and tried his best to flag down an approaching train, but the engineer couldn't stop in time.

The train slammed into the man's car...throwing it some forty feet down the tracks.

The driver? He ran away and police have yet to find him.
