Police Investigating Baby's Death

San Antonio Police say they are 'skeptical' about the story they are being told by the mother of a nine month old baby boy, who was found dead in his northeast side home last night, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Police Sergeant Marc Ebinger says officers were called to a home in the 5000 block of Casa Verde, which is near Thousand Oaks and Wurzbach Parkway, about 10PM Sunday.

"When they got here, the information didn't quite match the information that they were given," Ebinger said.  "Investigators were called out, and they have been processing the scene.  Right now we are not sure of the cause of death, so we are treating it kind of as a crime scene."

Ebinger says the mother and grandmother of the nine month old baby told detectives that the infant has 'drowned.'   But Ebinger says what officers found at the scene did not correlate with that story.

"The baby was not in the water, the baby was in the crib," he said.  "This is suspicious, that is why we are going through the house and checking everything."

Ebinger says the Medical Examiner's office is investigating the infant's cause of death.  So far, he says, nobody has been arrested and officers are not certain whether or not a crime was committed.
