A would be shoplifter will spend his Christmas in jail facing serious charges after he was shot Saturday night by an off duty police officer who was working security at the Wal-Mart in Converse, 1200 WOAI news reports.


  Police tell 1200 WOAI news the officers were in full uniform when a store employee pointed out a man who had been stealing from the store.  The officers spotted him in the parking lot and approached the car.


  After a brief conversation, police say the man threw his car into gear and tried to speed away, injuring the two officers who were struck by the door of the man's car.


  One of the officers pulled a gun and shot the suspect in the arm.  He was treated for wounds which were not life threatening and will face felony charges.


  The two officers were not seriously hurt.  Officials say nobody in the parking lot of the busy store was in any danger.
