All hail the Mud King!
After a two year break, crews will begin draining the Riverwalk downtown shortly after the end of Christmas and New Year's festivities.
"Just to see if there has been any sediment build up, and to remove any of that sediment," said April Alcoser of the city's Department of Public Works.
The river will be drained from January 5th through January 10th and crews will search the mud for items tossed into the Riverwalk, and they always find some interesting ones, and to repair the main channel.
"It's just routine maintenance," she said. "We want to make sure that everything is working properly and we can remove any sediment which has built up."
The Riverwalk has not had to be drained following an extensive sediment removing and cleaning operation early in 2011, officials said.
