San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard, 32, who was shot in the head by two fleeing armed robbery suspects on December 8th, died this morning at San Antonio Military Medical Center, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"With great sorrow we have received word from the Deckard family that bobby passed away this morning," Police Chief William McManus said.

Deckard was one of several officers who were chasing a man and a woman through southern Bexar and into Atascosa and Wilson Counties in the early morning of December 8th.  One of the two people in the fleeing car, which was occupied by a man and a woman, started firing at pursuing police officers.  Officer Deckard was hit in the head with a bullet, and his police car, which was traveling at speeds of up to 100 mph, went off the road and crashed into a median.

The suspects were captured several hours later following a massive three county search.

The Deckard family kept the officer on life support so they could remove his organs so he could 'continue doing what he loved to do, and that is helping the people of San Antonio.'

The two suspects are now expected to face capital murder charges.
