A San Antonio Army wife, who is charged with ripping her six year old son's scrotum open in a fit of anger, appeared before a federal magistrate today and waived her right to a bond hearing.
Jennifer Marie Vargas, 34, was arrested on Wednesday by the FBI, because the crime allegedly occurred on Fort Sam Houston, and charged with Assault within Maritime and Territorial Jurisdiction Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. She faces ten years in prison if convicted.
Vargas declined to make any comment in the courtroom and she will be held without bond until an future appearence.
An FBI affidavit says Vargas, who is the boy's biological mother, 'grabbed his scrotum and pulled him to her as hard as she could' because she was angry with the child.
Vargas told the FBI that she then tried to repair the four centimeter long tear in his scrotum with super glue.
"She applied super glue to the six year old's scrotum until the bleeding stopped, stuffed his underwear with paper towels, and then told him to go to bed," the affidavit states.
She declined to seek medical attention for the child, according to the FBI.
Investigators say the child's father, Army Specialist First Class Samuel Simpson, arrived home and found the boy crying, and transported the boy to the hospital for treatment.
The boy had to undergo emergency surgery to repair the wound. In addition to the tear, the affidavit says the boy suffered 'bruising to his penis.'
She is expected to ask for bond. She has been held without bond since her arrest.
The boy is with his father.
