Two Selma Police Officers are hospitalized after they were shot overnight by a domestic violence suspect, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Police say two officers were dispatched to a report of family violence in the 9000 block of Pinseeker, which is located right across Interstate 35 from Retama Park, shortly after 10 last night.

When the two officers, whose names have not been released, knocked on the door of the home and identified themselves as police, a man inside the home opened fire through the door.

One officer was shot in the face and the other was wounded in the leg.

The officers then returned fire and the gunman was struck twice.

All three are hospitalized. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Police frequently say that domestic violence calls are the most dangerous they answer on a daily basis, due to the emotions involved.

In San Antonio September 9, a very similar situation occurred.  Police officers responding to a domestic disturbance at a downtown hotel were shot through the door by a man, who then proceeded to hold officers at bay for nine hours before surrendering.
