Nowhere in the Texas Republican Party's convention in Ft. Worth provides a better example of the fact that the Texas GOP is controlled by the conservative grass roots and Tea Party movement.

The party approved a hard-right platform which rejects a 'guest worker' program in its immigration plank, and calls for no restrictions on the controversial practice of 'reparative therapy,' which claims to be able to turn gays into heterosexuals through use of therapy.

But the biggest victory for conservatives was in the straw poll for President.

Firebrand Tea Party hero Ted Cruz overwhelmingly won his party's endorsement for President n 2016.  42% of the 7,000 delegates backed the state's junior Senator.

Number two was physician and conservative speaker Ben Carson, and fellow Tea Party hero Sen. Rand Paul was third.  Governor Perry finished fourth, with just 11% support.
