Michael Pimentel, the police chief in Elmendorf, was shot to death on Saturday while trying to arrest a suspect, Newsradio 1200 WOAI's Morgan Montalvo reports.
Officials say a 24 year old man is in custody and will face charges.
Pimentel was apparently trying to arrest the 24 year old suspect on a traffic charge when an altercation occurred. Officials said the suspect fired three times, hitting the chief twice.
The chief died at University Hospital, according to a Tweet from the San Antonio Police Department.
Officials didn't know the nature of the traffic stop that sparked the deadly shooting.
