A woman was shot during a bungled robbery attempt this morning at a north side restaurant, police tell 1200 WOAI’s Morgan Montalvo.

Police say a gunman walked into the Saltgrass Restaurant at 281 and Mecca about 2AM, grabbed a female employee around the neck and pointed a gun at her head, demanding money.

While he was holding the woman hostage, police say the gunman ordered all of the other employees to bring him the night's receipts.

But when an alarm went off, the gunman apparently panicked.  He fired his gun and hit the female employee in the ankle.

After a few minutes, the suspect ran away.  It’s uncertain whether he got away with any cash.

The woman is hospitalized.  So far, no arrests.
