Julian Lennon's upcoming EP is made up of four unreleased and reimagined songs from years past and the singer-songwriter says he's likely to release another similarly-focused collection in the future.
While Julian often finds himself juggling multiple creative projects, including his photography career, he tells Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke that music — or more specifically, new music — is a far more wily muse to wrangle these days.
"They all sit nicely together and beautifully together," Julian says of the songs on his EP. "I, without question, see myself going back into the vault over the next few months, in between, all the other work that I'm doing, doing more of this, throwing another EP out there in the spring.
"One of my problems is I find it hard to move on and write new music — I mean, I do, and I will — but because there are so many unfinished works, I really want to tap into that and finish them as best as I can. Maybe some can't be [finished], I don't know yet. But there's a lot of stuff there that I really, really love that has no home and I think deserves one."
Julian surmises that he might need to get more ideas "out of [his] system" before getting the itch to dive into a completely new, longer form musical project.
"These [EP] tracks have turned out so lovely, and they're different from everything else that I've done," he adds of the four upcoming tracks. "They really do sound different from all of the album stuff that I've done."
